The Equity Architect
Our Story

Two brothers, two sides of the same problem.

One spent a decade advising on equity compensation. The other experienced it firsthand at a global technology company. Built for tech employees, by a tech employee.

Jon and Mitch Ludwig, brothers and founders of The Equity Architect

Jon and Mitch Ludwig are brothers, best friends, and graduates of the same financial planning program at Virginia Tech. From there, their paths split. Mitch earned his CFP® and spent the next decade as an advisor, guiding tech professionals through ISO exercises, vesting cliffs, and IPOs. Jon spent two years in wealth management, then crossed over into tech as a software product manager at a global technology consulting firm. He worked beside engineers at every career stage, climbed the same ladder, and collected the same equity grants.

That's where the problem found him. Jon had a financial planning education, and he still couldn't confidently answer his own questions. How much should go into company stock versus his 401(k) versus a taxable account? When could he sell without handing an avoidable cut to the IRS? And if he was stuck, his colleagues were worse off. Most were making the biggest financial decisions of their careers alone, in a vacuum. Many didn't know what equity they held, or that an ISO and an RSU are taxed nothing alike. Nobody had ever taught them.

It came to a head over a whiskey one holiday, when Jon did what he'd always done: brought his questions to his brother. Mitch had spent a decade answering exactly these questions for clients, and the answers Jon couldn't find anywhere else came back plain and specific. The real question surfaced on its own. If Jon needed this, with his background, what about every engineer he worked with?

So they built the answer together. Jon created The Equity Architect: the calculators, the tools, the education he wished he'd had. Together, the brothers built The EQUITY System™, joining Jon's product thinking with Mitch's decade of planning experience, covering the full arc from a first grant to a liquidity event. The roles stay clean. Jon builds the platform, and he doesn't give investment advice. Every plan is delivered by Mitch, as a CFP®, the same way he answered his brother.

The plan starts with Mitch.
